NBEC is the multi-generational English-speaking Congregation (EC) of North Boston Korean United Methodist Church. Jane currently serves as the sole pastor and executive director of this congregation.

As part of a UMC church, NBEC operates under the vision of the UMC’s mission statement, which is to make disciples of Jesus Christ transformed by the Gospel for the transformation of the world. The church seeks to fulfill this vision through the mission, which is to:

  1. Welcome all people to experience God through Jesus Christ,

  2. Empower all members as disciples transformed by the Gospel with faith in real life. and

  3. Send all members into the world to serve in Jesus’ name.

NBEC’s core values, echoed from the UMC’s Process for Carrying Out Our Mission, are:

  • Worship; to glorify God and enjoy His presence; to encounter God and experience Gospel-driven transformation through worship; to nurture all members of the church through worship, the sacraments, spiritual disciplines, and grace;

  • Discipleship; to be built up, supported, and held accountable in love and grace; to be taught and to be heard; to “lead persons to commit their lives to God through baptism by water and the spirit and profession of faith in Jesus Christ;”

  • Community and Unity; to be one family as true brothers and sisters bound together by the blood of Christ;

  • Respect; to be respectful of all persons, regardless of what they identify as; to treat all persons with the dignity and worth they ought to be given as image-bearers;

  • Missions and Justice; to be “witnesses in the world by word and deed”; to “do justice and love mercy” (Mic. 6:8) as the visible church of Christ.

  • Youth Group has Saturday Night Gathering (SNG for short) every Saturday at 6:30PM in the church building, located in Andover, MA.

    This is a youth-specific gathering in nature, and we welcome students grades 6-12. Our meetings vary day-to-day, from doing devotionals together, learning about faith and sharing in small groups to having fun and fellowship together.

  • The vision is to be a spiritual and relational home for all who enter in.

    The vision for this community, embedded into our name, GaJOK, is to be a community that can be a home to all who enter in, be it for one week or for many years. We believe in the cruciality and the sanctity of koinonia, or fellowship, as described in Acts 2:42-47, and seek to implement the various aspects of community into our gatherings and our community culture.

    We hold to the work of God’s faithfulness in our lives and in our church by nodding to our spiritual heritage in being a part of the Korean church, and with that, share a hope to be better tethered to the congregations in our church and to, by God’s will and power, transcend cultural and linguistic barriers to meet in the middle and exist together as a Body in Christ. We carry this out by going through material together before fellowshipping over food.

    As we become increasingly multiethnic, we nod to the Korean spiritual heritage of our church as we continue to grow by God’s guidance and welcome everyone of all walks, backgrounds, and ethnicities to Join Our Koinonia (GaJOK).

  • Similar to college/ya group, family group is open to adults of all ages, from college students and young working professionals to newlyweds, young families, and English-speaking elders, but is targeted for families especially. It is a lively, welcoming gathering where adults of all life stages come together to break bread and do life together as well as dive into the Word.

    To clarify, there are 11 total family groups in our church, and this group exists as the primary group for english-speakers.
